OUR SERVICES
We target primarily Tour Operators and outbound agents, but will assist independent travellers when requested.
If you are an outbound agent or tour operator, Active Africa can provide guides for your programs or, as your representative in Africa, assist you with your itinerary planning and provide specialist guides who will professionally conduct your tours under your brand and to your specifications.
If you are an independent traveller, our team of exceptional guides can work with you to arrange your trip before you arrive and travel with you to ensure smooth execution of your travel plans.
Tour Operator Representation
A unique concept that offers the tour operator a cost effective alternative to traditional quoting practices and protects brand integrity, we see ourselves as your logistics and operating division in Africa. Our level of involvement is tailored to your requirements - under a Full Facilitation contract we will manage all aspects of your tour from concept design to product delivery, while an Itinerary Management contract would assist you with the implementation of operational elements of existing programmes. Both concepts work on a trip-by-trip basis, reducing your overhead operating costs, and is normally attached to a guiding contract where the trip manager working on your departure is also your guide, ensuring continuity and excellent service delivery.
In addition, we employ an entirely transparent accounting process where all tourism services utilised are invoiced to you at the contracted net rates we have negotiated with established service providers and through our partner agents. There is no mark-up or hidden expense - we make our money from a pre-determined, time-based management fee and our guide fees. Remember, we are guides and we earn our fees for the services we undertake.
Guiding & Leading Services
Active Africa has earned a reputation as a reliable resource for specialist guides and trip leaders with unique skill sets - from mountain treks to city walks, botanical meanders to big game tracking, bicycle tours to coach tours, cultural exchanges to culinary discoveries, and whether on a day trip in Cape Town or a multi country expedition, an Active Africa guide or trip leader will ensure a safe, enjoyable, informative and efficiently run experience.
What do we mean by unique skill sets? As the name suggests, many of the trips we guide involve active elements such as walking, trekking, and bicycling, mostly in the countries of Sub-Sahara Africa and often in wilderness areas - as active travel professionals and enthusiasts in their personal time, our guides are experienced and professionally accredited to conduct these activities. But one cannot tour in Africa without experiencing the vast assortment of ancient, transitional and contemporary traditions and cultures. All of our guides were born or raised in Africa and are able to offer keen insight into many of the quirks and qualities that make the continent so rich in history and culture. Importantly, many of our guides have guided or travelled outside of Africa and are able to view the continent from a wider global perspective.
Gear Rental
Our days as a tour operator saw us collecting mountains of gear, much of which is still in our inventory. We offer rental of well-known technical brands of trekking gear and camping equipment for use on tours, available to tour operators and independent travellers using the services of Active Africa guides.
We also offer a fleet of 12 Giant Cypress 2009 model hybrid bicycles for tar and dirt road touring. Active Africa guides will operate single and multi-day bicycle tours for you without you having to rent bicycles independently. It has never been easier for a tour operator to include a bicycle tour of the Cape peninsula or winelands into a regular tour itinerary.
