The Western Cape, or the Cape as it is affectionately referred to, is the gateway to Africa and home to the vibrant city of Cape Town. Port Elizabeth, known as the "Friendly City", is the gateway to the Eastern Cape. Historical sites include Donkin Street, where settlers from Britain set up home in 1820. To the west is the lush Tsitsikamma Forest, which means "place of abundant water", while to the east are the Amatola Mountains. Both areas are ideal for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits like hiking.

The Drakensberg mountain range stretches the entire length of KwaZulu-Natal's western boundary. This area is a major escarpment of South Africa, stretching for hundreds of miles along the southeastern edge of the vast interior plateau. The Zulus call the range Khuahlamba, The Barrier of Pointing Spears.

The smallest country in the southern hemisphere is also one of the most easy going and laid back. Swaziland is fast becoming known for its amazing national parks and well established wildlife walking trails. Black and white rhino, elephant, and more recently, lion have been reintroduced into the collection of national parks and game reserves and you may get surprisingly close to a huge variety of wildlife.

Lesotho, the Kingdom of the Sky, is surrounded by both South Africa and a range of seemingly impenetrable mountains. It is autonomous from South Africa despite being fought over between British and Boers for almost 200 years. Maseru is the kingdom’s capital and has been rapidly expanding since the 1970s. In size it is approximately equal to Belgium.
